Good morning to reboot day number 2 and NOT having my face squashed. Thank gawd for that too, because bad news, I took a cow kick to the back of the head = bad for Amy. Well, not exactly, but it sure felt like it. WTH? This happened to me on day 2 of my very first fast, but I believe it was more of a hammer to the forehead kinda thing going on that morning…
I’ll say it again too, I can handle a self induced headache from a good party the night before (major ex-party girl here), but waking with a whopper for no reason just irks me. I did not have to crawl to the kitchen for a glass of water at least, and it did clear itself up by the time I poured my first juice, soooo I guess I won’t complain much. Poor Randy… On his last juice fast, he held onto his headache for almost 3 days. THAT would be awful…
Morning Juice Fast Reboot Check In:
- Body Fat – 16.9 %
- Weight – 124.7 lbs - Lean 103.63 lbs – Fat 21.07 lbs
- BMI – 20.3
Nightly Juice Fast Reboot Assessment:
- Headaches – Woke with a whopper but the rest of the day has been good
- Sleep – Randy says I was pretty restless, but I really didn’t notice, I do feel a bit more tired tonight
- Energy – Still running well enough to keep up with everything = kids home on break, working on the blog, and helping wedding planning
- Joint pain – Still great and holding their own since my previous reboot/fast
- Stamina – Still going strong, but may chill earlier this evening
- Motivation – Strong
- Hunger – Surprisingly, I still haven’t been that hungry today until I made dinner…now I’m like bloated full from one glass of juice
I have to admit, reboot day 2 has been so busy, I haven’t really had time to think about not eating or fasting. Having all 3 kids home and my soon to be daughter in-law here has kept me more than occupied. I started out the morning with taking care of my seedlings (I’m preparing them for planting soon). Then it was onto the blog, then breakfast, then more juicing, and then a surprise, “We have to go now!” Lol… Our son, Zachary, who’s serving in the Army is planning to be married. Well, the kids set the date late last night once they finally got word of his leave (all you out there familiar with military life can appreciate the troubles of planning a wedding), so it was a quick flash and dash to hurry and reserve the wedding site today. We got it, thank gawd again.
Anyway, by the time we got home, it was late afternoon, and I was so glad I had extra juice in the refrigerator. I usually make a batch large enough for 2, 12 oz. servings – 1 for now and 1 for later. It saved me a ton of time, so I could work a bit more and then get dinner going early. Dinner was surprisingly easy, considering I made tacos. I do so love tacos. And you know, I honestly did alright preparing everything. I had no snarling saber moments or cravings creeping in.
Putting the tacos together and serving them was a whole other story though. THAT did it for me…my first moment of, “Why am I doing this again?” They smelled so good and even just holding the taco while piling on all the goodies was close to torture… BUT, I prevailed, lol… I brought the kids their plates and sat down with my juice. Once I did that, I was right as rain again.
Funny, I didn’t even want to eat a taco then… I fed the baby and everything, no problem. I think my cravings are becoming fewer and further between due to my previous fasting experiences and drawing back on what I learned about real hunger and cravings. Seriously, I can make myself hungry just by looking at something delish and then not hungry by directing my attention to something else I crave – like being creative and partying.
I try not to partaay too much anymore, lol…. It’s just not good for my good health (how I secretly wish it was though, lol). So, what does Randy do? He introduced me to Pinterest a month or two ago. I have to say, I’m so addicted, it’s just embarrassing and the whole family is picking on me… BUT, I just can’t help it! There are way, way too many projects I want to do, and the pins just keep on coming! I may need professional help soon. LOL!
Anyway like I said, I just direct my interest in another place that feeds a need and viola, no saber tooth tiger = happiness for the whole family. If you’re fasting and going a little crazy, find something to do that you really, really enjoy. It helps soooo much!
OH! I almost forgot…
My Juice Diet For Today:
- 6:45 am 12 oz. water
- 7:30 am 12 oz. Hawaiian Sunrise
- 100:00 am 12 oz. water
- 10:45 am 12 oz. Sweet Robust Italiano
- 1:00 pm 12 oz. Popeye’s Favorite
- 3:00 pm 12 oz. water
- 5:00 pm 6 oz. orange juice (I needed a little something sweet)
- 5:45 pm 12 oz. Sweet Robust Italiano
- 7:45 pm 12 oz. Popeye’s Favorite
I do think the third time around will be the more charming of juice fasts. It seems to be thus far, and I’m hoping this reboot keeps going this way. I’m going to make it happen either way… There, that’s what I needed to say.
Here’s to a July wedding in a botanical garden – sooooo excited!
Amy

Thank you both for the wonderful encourage and great advice. Randy, you are so right. I can’t go all out with this diet because of my schedule. My thoughts are to keep the diet coke addiction for now after going two days without any this week, I was ready to kill someone and my head was pounding. Lol! I was so ashamed that I really thought I could go hard core but I have to wean myself off it and replace bad habits with good ones. (If I could have stayed home and suffered through it, I would have but I have finals in two weeks and a project due this week. Hopefully, I can attempt it again after finals and succeed.)
This was all great advice and I am definitely listening to all of it. Recently, my schedule changed and I have some free time, I am hoping to use that time to do the Couch to 5k program. As far as my diet, I am going to start adding the juice to my diet and focus on continuing to make healthy eating decisions. More salad and fish. You guys know the deal, less processed foods and more fruits and veggies.
I love Dr. Fuhrman’s book, Eat to Live. It has made some pretty big changes in my life already and I am not even finished with it. Lol! Just FYI, today I was able to get back into all my size 14 jeans from 5 years ago.
I was so excited. I am still losing and so happy.
Amy, I love your Pinterest Boards!!! I am hopelessly addicted myself. Wish you guys lived closer. I got a feeling we would get along great!
Thanks for all the support and BRAVO for all your accomplishments. You guys are really inspiring me! Love following your blog!
Thank you again!
Rebecca
Oh, Pinterest, how I love thee……
I knooow… I need someone to stop me! Lol….
Hey Amy,
Love your blog! I watched Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead for the first time yesterday. A few months ago I caught the tail end of the movie and surprising found it by accident on Netflixs, so I watched it. For Christmas, my stepfather gave me Dr. Fuhrman’s book, Eat To Live. Since I was a child I have struggled with my weight despite my extremely active lifestyle. (Soccer, Road Cycling, Horses Riding, Hiking, and I do take the stairs to the sixth floor several times a day at work. – Just me I am extremely active!)
My problem is not my activity level but all my horrible eating habits. At the start I need to lose 60 pounds. I have made several changes since Christmas and lost 15 pounds but I have plateau and I feel like I am starving from calorie depriving. This diet looks great and I really want to try it but I am terrified of the addiction withdrawals. My schedule includes a 40 hour job and full-time night school then I clean house and give horse lessons on the weekend. (I wish I was joking about my busy schedule.)
I can’t afford a week off from work so I am scared I am setting myself up for failure. My biggest problem is diet cokes. Any words of wisdom that helps you get through the 10 days? The Reboot website suggested a long weekend but I still have a work and do homework.
I am desperate for any advice. I am now following your blog! Thank you for doing this, you are the first blog I have ever followed!
Thanks,
Rebecca Shirey
The best thing I can tell Rebecca is that you will succeed at this. If you are the type of person that I picture while reading your comment, then you are not afraid to do the work and commit to making changes.
You don’t seem to be looking for a quick, easy, sexy, “buy your way out” solution that will only last for a little while. But instead would like a life changing answer and are willing to work for it.
A juice fast is a good way to jump start a change, but it is no magic bullet. It’s often said in many ways, but you did not develop your problems or acquire your habits overnight. It took years to create the problem and will take some time to fix.
Read our story hear… http://www.health-actually.com/blog/natural-weight-loss-the-health-actually-way/ if you want to see how Amy and I peeled 120lbs off me and kept it off (if you haven’t already anyway). I’m not the best writer in the world, but the story is true and our lessons have work for countless people.
One of my favorite sayings actually comes for Dr. Phil…. “People don’t break bad habits, they replace them”. I like it because it fits in nicely with our method of change. Just change one thing at a time and never stop improving. Learn from set-backs and adjust your strategy, but keep on getting a little better each day.
I’m a huge Diet Coke addict myself, but I’m not too worried about it. I keep it within reason and it’s really the only vice I allow myself anymore so no biggie. Someday I’ll probably kick it, but right now it’s not a huge concern as long as I stay under 4 cans a day.
If you decide to do a juice fast, I would strongly advice you not to do one until you can go for a whole week without Diet Coke. Tell yourself you can have it back after the fast if you have to, but don’t go cold turkey and straight into a juice fast. It just plain sucks! I learned real fast to ween off the DC (aka Satan’s Sweat) first or pay the price with a day in bed laying in the dark.
You have Netflix which is a great source for motivation. Check out Food Matters, Food Inc, Forks over Knives, the TED Talks and go online to check out Hungry for Change. Those are all great sources of motivation and inspiration. There are a bunch more, but start with those.
We are always more than willing to help anyone who is willing to help themselves so if you have any questions, just let us know. And by all means, keep us posted on how you do!

BeeEEcaahh! Lol…sorry. I have Pauly Shore from “The Son-inlaw” stuck in my head
I am following a lot of Dr. Fuhrman’s principles (I loved his book Eat to Live). I am not hard core perfect for sure, but I’d say at least 75% of what I’m eating is all good. That works for me best…
As for you, holy shXX you ARE busy! I LOVE you! I’m a busy bee myself, so I can appreciate your dilemma. My best advise – go along much with what Randy had to say. Change it up over time, one thing at a time. That’s what worked the best for us. We’ve been changing our ways since ohhhh….. like 7 years now. We did not come to eating healthy most of the day like we do now overnight – for sure. Not that you should take 7 years though, lol! Damn that would be toooo long..
I guess what I mean is, try eating a salad everyday for lunch first. Don’t eliminate all the bad stuff your eating, just add in that salad and commit to it… Have you heard about salad in a mason jar? Just incase not here’s a few links:
http://karenknichols.blogspot.ca/2012/02/mason-jar-salads.html
http://www.fatgirltrappedinaskinnybody.com/2011/10/salad-in-a-jar-src/
You make up these salads when you have time and save them in the fridge for when you don’t have time = awesome super time and health saver, lol! Love it!
Eat a salad each day and see how you feel. Then, maybe add more vegetables to your dinner for a while, then maybe a healthier easy to put together breakfast. Then, fill your pantry with some healthy snacks. Ours are:
Before you know it, your tastes will lean more to healthier foods for yourself. Think of it as crowding out the not so great stuff… Plus, you won’t be stressing over cutting out the bad stuff.
http://www.health-actually.com/blog/healthy-snacks-list-our-familys-top-20/ It’s a pretty kid friendly list – so not all may be appealing to you…
And then you could add in….and then….and then…. You get the idea
As for a juice fast, it’s a great way to clean and polish up your health. In your case though, you are a machine = you will need to keep going with as few withdrawals as possible. Commit to a salad a day for a week, and then step it up by adding in more and more healthy foods. Do try to eliminate caffeine and other very sugary foods..how about caffeine free diet coke. Start out replacing one coke a day with a caffeine free version and then slowly migrate off of the caffeine. Once you’re de-cafinated (lol) and off a lot of sugary and fatty foods, then, try a juice fast to reboot your machine. The withdrawls will be considerably less to none and you WILL feel great.
You have a lot driving you. I think you could do this for yourself, definitely. And like Randy said, replace a bad habit with another habit..just make it a good one. Spend more time with the horses or find something you really enjoy, have passion for, and pursue it. It makes “food” less interesting.
OH! And if you like, you can find me on pinterest (I’m a hopeless addict – sooo many progects so little time!) I keep a salad board with lots of tasty salad recipes to try. People know how to make food YUMMY! OMG! You won’t get bored with the greens then if you know what I mean.. Just don’t look at the sweets and treats board I keep, lol! I’m terrible that way some days, lol…. Maybe even a little evil, he he he… >:}
Much good luck and I wish you the best!
And thanks too for all your kind words about the blog…you made my day today
((HUGS))
