Coming up with Father’s Day gift ideas can be tough…
Fathers Day is great and I love spending time with my family, but there is one small downside… the annual “What do you want for Father’s Day?” interrogation. The usual answer is something like “I don’t know” or “Nothing fancy” because we really have no idea, but that won’t stop the grilling. So I though it might help you come up with some ideas by listing some of my favorites.
If your big daddy is a little too big, then these might be just the ticket for some encouragement to get started getting fit. Or if he’s already in shape, there’s some great stuff in here that will keep him from getting bored with the same old workout or maybe start up a new one. Either way here’s some of my favorite past gifts that I’m sure he’ll love too….
Father’s Day Gift Ideas
Chip Up Bar – I got this one for Christmas, but it’s a great gift any time of year. Chin-ups are one of the best exercises and these inexpensive chip-up bars fit in your doorway so you can do them at home. I was surprised how much I use mine, even when I’m just stretching. You can also get clip on straps and use it for some kick ass ab exercises. Especially if you’re on a small budget, this makes for a great Father’s Day gift.
GPS Watch and Heartrate Monitor – These things are awesome and great for a wide range of budgets. Route tracking and performance monitoring is a great way to add some dimension if you’re bored with your workout. And there simply awesome if you’re training for the next level. I’ve had a couple Forerunners and can say whether he’s just getting started or a seasoned veteran, these make a great choice.
Boxing Gear – One of the coolest gifts I’ve ever received and it was actually for Father’s Day, gloves and a heavy bag. Upper body workout and amazing cardio both in the comfort of your own garage or basement, what more could you ask for? This Father’s Day gift idea is a little unusual and probably not for everybody, but for the right guy this will make an amazing present. I love mine!
Adjustable Dumbbells – Okay, this one is pricy, but well worth it. The family got together and chipped in to get me a set of these. It wasn’t Fathers Day, but it was a great gift idea. Free weights are king of strength training, but nothing sucks more than changing weights all the time. With these its a snap. If you’ve got the cash or want to go in as a group, this is an unbelievably cool Father’s Day gift idea. P.S. The 552 model is good, but the 1090 model is much better quality and well worth the extra cost.
Body Fat Analyzer – Here’s another good one for a tight budget. Watching your weight is one thing, but monitoring your body fat percentage makes it exponentially more powerful. You really need to know what type of mass you’re losing. Calipers are more accurate, but these electronic analyzers are way more convenient and work fine for the average J0e. Just make sure you check it at the same time of day and hold your arms at the same angle to stay consistent.
Skin Fold Caliper – Also for body fat monitoring and also quite inexpensive, but probably not for every Dad. The most accurate way to use these requires help to measure seven points so it’s not very convenient, but it is pretty damn accurate. So I would only suggest this idea if he’s really into fitness and needs that extra precision.
MP3 Player - If all else fails and he doesn’t already have an MP3 player, get him one for Father’s Day. You can go as cheap or as fancy as you like, but for my workouts I prefer the iPod Shuffle just for it’s size. There’s nothing like the right song to keep you going on a long run and they’re very effective at keeping the chatter monkeys off you at the gym!
So there you have it, a list of my favorites health related gifts. They weren’t all for Fathers Day, but they were all given with love and I’ve gotten a lot of use and enjoyment out of them. Hopefully you found a good Father’s Day gift idea in there, but if not maybe it’ll help spark a some ideas.
Happy Father’s Day,
Randy “The Healthy Dad” Lee
