Ultimate Gifts for Women into Health and Fitness
Iron Gym Chin Up Bar: This I have, I love, and had to share first on my gifts for women list. For one, it does exactly what it claims to do. It fits in the doorway easily making doing chin-ups super easy. Take down and put up is ridiculously simple. It’s great for doing different chin-ups and dips targeting different muscles too. For two, it works wonders for stretching my back. I have a previous injury (permanent crushed vertebrae) that I need to stretch often. The chin up bar allows me to hang from the doorway allowing my spine to stretch apart each individual vertebrae. Iron Gym makes for a multifunctional chin up bar this way. I absolutely love mine and cannot live without it.
Kettlebells: Are cool – Period. They almost made first on my list of gifts for women, but… I do not have a set for myself at home yet, I do work out with them at the dojo though. The bells’ handles make for secure gripping and the weights can range from 2 lbs. – 175 lbs. Kettlebells’ ballistic exercises such as: the swing, the snatch, and the clean and jerk, will teach her how to work her body as one unit making for a more effective, efficient workout compared to traditional weightlifting. They come in different colors and are fun to work out with – I found traditional lifting weights repetitive and kind of boring after a while. Look for videos on how to train with kettlebells to compliment the bells as well. I want black ones…just sayin. ![]()
Martial Arts Weapons: I definitely want more of these! Weapons are the coooolest of gifts for women – I think so anyway. If the chicky you’re shopping for is into the dojo scene, you really should consider a complimentary weapon for her choice of art. I actually got a bo staff and nunchuks for Mother’s Day. They were the best, most coolest Mother’s Day presents ever! “What’d the family do for your Mother’s Day Amy?” .. “Oh, they gave me WEAPONS!” I loved the looks I got = priceless. How cool is that? Next on my wish list is a twin sai set – HUGE HINT!
Resistance Bands: I do not have a set yet, but I think it’s critical that Randy and I get one. I know they can be used for adding resistance to body weighted exercises, but moreover for multitasking more than one exercise at a time making for a more efficient workout. Check out 10 Minute Trainer: Tony Horton’s Workout for the Busiest People Fitness DVD Program. I like his ideas and would like to try a few of his routines at home (I hate at the gym how I can get stuck waiting for anything in between sets). Keep in mind too, that I often see people in yoga class using the resistance bands for assistance with stretching as well – again, another two for one type of gifts for women.
Nordic Walking Poles: I think that these would not only make for a more effective walking workout, but also a more fun one! Make sure to do a little research to purchase the perfect length of poles which will automatically help her to walk with a super straight back. This improved walking posture when combined with the unique 4-Wheel-Drive type action of walking with poles radically reduces the stress to the shins, knees, hips and back. Nordic Walking is low impact and yet provides a highly effective workout – burning more calories and working more muscle groups than regular walking. Definitely, if you live in a scenic, hilly, or even mountainous type place and your girl is into walking for fitness, you should consider purchasing Nordic Walking Poles. I may do so myself later in life when I grow tired of incline walking on my treadmill. I’m all about low-impact high calorie burning!
Treadmill: Ok, a bit on the pricey side and definitely the most expensive of my gifts for women list, but if you have time to save and your girl is into walking, running, or climbing, a treadmill at home is the bomb! I’m into incline walking, and I absolutely love, adore, and cherish my treadmill… I polish it for gawdsakes, lol! Anyway, I’m a super busy, machine mom, so having the treadmill at home makes it easy to fit a work out into my hectic schedule. Plus, it’s a HUGE stress buster for when I have house-rage. Hey, Randy has road-rage; I have house-rage, lol… Make sure to do your research on treadmills before rushing into a purchase and try to buy according to her workout needs vs. saving money. We can attest that the extra money we spent on ours was worth it.
Weighted Walking Vest: – another gift on my wish list here. Now that the weather is cooling off, a weighted vest is a great addition for those who enjoy walking for fitness. The vest allows for even distribution of weight along the spine decreasing risk of injury or stress on the joints like ankle and wrist weights can do. If you and your special girl walk together, why not buy a set? I’m putting this one on my wish list to bump up my incline walking to a higher level.
Punching Bag: This is the ultimate two for one on my gifts for women list. Punching away on the bag makes for a great work out and stress eliminator. My cousin’s husband bought one for her that she swears by. She’s a bold Leo like myself in need of a good stress buster now and then. Our older boys and I went in together on the purchase of one for Randy one past father’s day. Randy still says it was one of his best ever Father’s day gifts. We use it often, which includes the whole family. Even the baby enjoys punching away on it, but for him it’s all about fun. Do a little research to find out the right size and weight to get the best bag to fit your best girl. You won’t want to get a bag that’s too heavy or hard hitting.
Boxing Gloves and Wraps: These are a must have to compliment a good punching bag. I have been borrowing Randy’s for too long now, and would love to have a pair of my own – tiger striped if you can find such a thing.
I tell you, there’s something cool, even mysterious, about a woman wearing boxing gloves. That’s just my own opinion…
Yoga Mat: I truly love yoga, and if she’s into yoga, or talking about it, consider a yoga mat. The mat, while not absolutely necessary, her space setting up boundaries for others. They’re great if she wants to take a class. I have one myself, and use it each time I practice. Mine is a “Plain Jane” mat, but you could make it more special by shopping for a more personalized one. It could be printed with a healing prayer or thoughtful mantra, maybe a symbol? Then, each time she used it, it would have more meaning adding to the intensity of practice and meditation. My mother in-law actually had hers infused with positive energy that she swears by! Personalized, thoughtful touches make great additions to gifts for women.
Yoga with Baby Videos: I think these videos could be a great complimenting gift to a yoga mat for new Moms or Moms that are home with little ones like myself. Be sure to check out the reviews before purchasing to make sure it fits her Mommy style and baby’s age though.
Last but not least, A Fruit and Vegetable Juicer: If she’s into healthy eating and fitness, then this is one of the best gifts for women you could give. Randy and I bought our first juicer just this past summer, (we both went on juice fasts) and let me tell you, the juicer has been the best kitchen appliance added to our lives. Drinking fresh vegetable and fruit juice has revived our health and given us more energy than ever. We drink it every day now. Plus, our kids are into eating more vegetables now too! I recommend, again, doing your research. You’ll want to get a juicer that will meet her needs. Maybe, you could share in drinking vegetable juice together on a quest for better health!
That pretty much sums up my suggested gifts for women. I will encourage you gift givers out there, especially if you a purchasing for your wife, fiancé, or girlfriend to make sure she’s into fitness before purchasing. Many women are sensitive to getting gifts related to fitness considering it as a possible implication of being overweight. SO, do make sure she’s into this sorta thing before purchasing. As long as she’s into it, she’ll love it – as if shopping for gifts for women wasn’t hard enough already, right?
I, also, would recommend a small romantic type gift on the side – even for the most hard core fitness chick. Let me explain:
I recall the best compliment Randy ever gave me. He said, “If we ever end up in the middle of a revolution [meaning war], I’m glad that you’re my partner.” I took that as a huge compliment to my strength both physically and mentally not to mention the respect he must have for me. But while I’m privy to such compliments on strength, I like a touch of romance too. You catch my drift?
So, if you’re shopping with this list of gifts for women in mind, no matter how gladiator she is, remember to compliment your gift of fitness with a touch of something nice. For instance, over the years Randy has given me a glass bluebird (I love bluebirds, and every happy ending has bluebirds in it), a meaningful unique to us only necklace, even a solid red pinwheel – long story and hard to find (took Randy almost 10 years). You could stitch “I love your strength” inside boxing gloves…
Anyway, you get the idea, and you will get HUGE-O points for it, and I can almost guarantee she’ll love it. When it comes to gifts for women, this simple yet romantic touch is a must! Plus, you’ve just covered your ass, if she doesn’t like your gift of fitness! LOL!
Save your receipts and good luck!
