This Oatmeal And Orange Juice Superfood Breakfast is a truly awesome way to start your day!

The response to that first article has been kind of a big surprise. So, I thought a follow up would be good to give a little more info on it…

Everyone has heard “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. But, do you know why it’s so important? See, your body does most of its hard work at night. Building muscle, repairing damage and organizing your brain all gets done while you sleep and that uses up a lot of nutrients. So by the time morning comes around, you need to replenish yourself and it’s vital that you do it right. Plus, starting out on the right foot helps set the tone for the rest of your the day.

A nice Oatmeal and Orange Juice Superfood Breakfast is just the ticket for this. It’s quick, easy and inexpensive. Plus it’s easy to keep stocked on the shelf. Most of all though, it is power packed with nutrition.

Oatmeal and Orange juice are both very good for you by themselves, but what most people don’t know is that these two eaten together become a Superfood. The nutrients in them (phenols and vitamin C) work synergistically together and double the normal benefits you get from eating them alone.

So here’s my very simple recipe (I suck at cooking so it has to be simple)…

Oatmeal And Orangejuice Superfood Breakfast Recipe

  • 3/4 Cup Old Fashioned Rolled Oats (No instant oatmeal! Too much sugar)
  • 1/2 Cup water
  • 1/2 Cup Skim Milk (You can use all water, but it won’t be as creamy)
  • Microwave it for 2.5 minutes (stove is better, but time is short in the morning)
  • Let it cool for a bit
  • 1/2 Skim Milk (More or less for thickness)
  • 1/4 Raisins (blueberries or craisins are good too they all have good antioxidants)
  • 1/2 Tablespoon of dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 Ground Flax Seed

Eat that with a cup of Orange Juice and you’re ready for the day!

Oatmeal And Orangejuice Superfood Breakfast Nutrition

Protein Carbs Fat Calories
Orange Juice 2 27 0 116
Raisins 1/4 Cup 1 31 0 128
Skim Milk 1 Cup 8 13 0 84
Oatmeal 3/4 Cup 7 41 4.5 232.5
Brown Sugar 1 Tbls 0 9 0 36
Ground Flax 1 Tbls 1 1.5 2.5 32.5
Total 19 122.5 7 629

I usually have this with a scoop of whey protein, a multi-vitamin and some wheatgrass juice, but that’s probably not realistic for most people. You should at least take a multi-vitamin though…

Now, 629 calories is probably too high for most people so adjust to your needs. You can…

  • Adjust the portions
  • Leave out the Brown Sugar (not very tasty though!)
  • Leave out the Flax is you don’t need it
  • Swap Raisins for Craisins. More nutritious and less calories!

Personally, when I’m in a cutting phase (losing fat while trying to maintain muscle) I just cut down to 1/2 cup of oatmeal and leave out the higher carb ingredients. Most of the time though I start my day with this oatmeal and orange juice breakfast 3 to 5 times per week.

You might be tempted to drop the Flax Seed, but it is a great addition. It’s loaded with the good fats and the good cholesterol (HDL) you need to help burn bad fat and scrub out the bad cholesterol (LDL).

The fruit is important too because of the antioxidants. Try to keep some amount of raisins, craisins, blueberries, etc… in there to help keep your immune system strong.

The most important thing here, though, is the Superfood benefits. Starting out your day with this quick and easy Oatmeal and Orange Juice breakfast will keep you full and energized through your morning!

To your health,
Randy Lee

It has to be or Randy wouldn’t make it, lol! He preps some the night before, if he has to head out earlier than usual the next morn. Maybe one day I’ll make him breakfast before work again…when we don’t have so many little ones, maybe… ;)
